Joy

Joy is belonging –
Laughter with loved ones,
Piled on top of each other.
Joy is liberation –
Freedom to be yourself in a world that usually doesn’t understand.
Joy is running through sunshine-spattered fields –
Throwing a frisbee,
Kicking a ball,
Or running just to feel the wind
Brush your skin
And flush your face.
Joy is long, winding conversations
You wish would never end.
It’s a pot of hot coffee
Brewed for two,
Before you venture into the dark, rainy morning.
Joy is being thoughtful,
Just because you care for their comfort.
Joy is dancing to your favorite song,
The beat moving you from your core,
And carrying your limbs along the melody.

  • Ending the Cycle of Hatred

I never thought that I would be someone who worried about her weight or size all the time, but that is who I have become. Every day, I look sideways in the mirror, at how my stomach pours out over my pants, at how my fat rolls as I move, at all of the extra me that I wish wasn’t there. I have grown so uncomfortable in my body, I wish I could just push the reset button – to go back to when I was 12 and I still loved my body. When I didn’t care about how I dressed or what I looked like to other people. But I don’t know how to end this cycle of hatred.

    Allegiance

What if we replaced every flagpole with a tree?
Flags were designed as a symbol of affiliation –
    Allegiance.
I have never pledged allegiance to the United States of America,
Because that is not where my loyalties lie.
I am a child of Mother Earth.
